Ai is transforming your cars technology

AI is transforming your cars technology

It’s a brave new world and as Artificial Intelligence technology is presenting itself in all kinds of spaces around us, from Alexa to predictive searches, so it’s not surprising that AI is playing an increasingly important role in the motor industry too.  AI plays a crucial role in car manufacturing and in the technology that is transforming cars into safer, smarter and smoother vehicles.

AI has been used by motor manufactures for a great many years.  We all remember the images of the first robotic car fitters in UK factories. These robots that brought car manufacturing to a new phase. Working smoothly and quickly, the conveyor belt with no human hands on, was a revelation to us all.  Today,  AI is totally integrated  in the automative industry these days, from design through to sales and marketing.

What AI does in cars?

So, you have probably wondered what AI does in your car. We know it doesn’t clean up the spilt popcorn and control your road rage. But it does a whole lot of other important and cool stuff. The AI-enabled systems in modern cars uses sensors to work the steering and safety features. It is the brains behind driver assistance systems. Features like lifesaving pedestrian detection. Sensors that monitor blind spots help us all to be safer on the road. Most automative technology use AI to enhance performance and efficiency by sending data on the cars range, efficiency, and performance. Navigational systems all use AI too. Tesla have developed a fully automated bot for their cars that gives you, the driver a call when there is a fault with the car.

Of course, AI can completely drive your car for you too! Although self-driving car or driverless cars are already on the road, but we don’t have that many around Longford just yet. It is estimated that the automotive industry will not completely roll out the fully self-driving car until 2023. Autonomous cars are the ultimate AI of the motor industry.

Car Manufacturing

AI has absolutely transformed car manufacturing. This is not just in the use of AI to put the pieces together and improve quality control, including reducing waste and noting where defects might occur. It is also used in gathering information on how we drive from information gathered from sensors on cars and using data analysis to make improvements in designs and in safety features. AI analysis is used to predict routine maintenance and can detect equipment failures before they occur. AI applications are evident right through every stage of getting a vehicle on the road.  When information is gathered by in-vehicle sensors, it can show how untimely braking, for example, might happen and incorporate designs to prevent and avoid this scenario. Without the algorithms, it would be significantly more complex to make use of the data.  AI means a safer, more efficient, and personalized driving experience.

Infotainments systems

AI is machine learning and predictive analysis. Simple as that. But its usage is more than simple. In-car technology reflects this. Consider  the old car radio, or even the beloved eight track player where you blasted your sounds in your first car.  Artificial intelligence is now controlling an infotainment system on many modern cars. This slick and smooth technology is where genres of music are isolated for your pleasure, radio stations allocated by voice commands and phone calls and text messages are announced by a disembodied voice.  It does make driving safer as there is no searching for the dopped CD or cursing at the loss of signal from your favourite radio station. It also gives you vehicle information and settings as they occur. It is your all-in-one road trip companion and something we can take for granted.  It is a brave new world and driving is all the better for it.
